Chiropractic is a natural hands-on healing profession that focuses on the neuromusculoskeletal system. Doctors of chiropractic use their hands and other specialized instruments to diagnose and treat disorders related to the spine, pelvis, nervous system and joints. Regular chiropractic check-ups can detect and correct spinal joint dysfunction early, preventing more serious future health problems.

noun: chiropractic

a system of complementary medicine based on the diagnosis and manipulative treatment of misalignments of the joints, especially those of the spinal column, which are held to cause other disorders by affecting the nerves, muscles, and organs

If you have never been to a Chiropractic office before, let us give you a brief overview of what to expect.

1

First Visit to our office:

First you will find free parking close to the door. Upon arrival our assistant will have paperwork for you to complete including a health history questionnaire. During the consultation the Doctor will review your case history with you to make sure we have all the information needed to proceed. You will be asked to describe all your symptoms.

If chiropractic care is likely to help you, the Chiropractor will next perform a thorough spinal examination and/or assessment of your area of complaint. Radiographs (x rays) are sometimes ordered to gain further information if long term damage or degeneration is suspected or if you have had a significant trauma. With our SIGMA computerized instrument assessment and adjusting technology, x rays are not often needed before we can start treatment. If you have already had x-rays or scans taken try to bring a copy of your report to the consultation.

Patients in acute pain can expect to have some emergency care or advice given to help them on their first visit. In many cases, if the Doctor is able to establish a tentative diagnosis, some treatment may be provided on the first visit. Occasionally with more complicated problems, treatment will start on the second visit, once the Chiropractor has had time to evaluate examination findings and explain the cause of your problem to you.

2

Report Visit

On the second visit, the results of your examination will be discussed with you. The Doctor will recommend a course of action to correct the problem or improve your situation. Any questions you have will be answered to the best of our ability. Treatment usually involves a series of adjustments or specific therapy such as cold laser for your injury and sometimes a combination of both should this be best to get you well faster.

Regular Visits

Treatments often only take 5 to 15 minutes so they do not take much time out of your busy day. Adjustments of the spine are similar to exercise training or dental orthodontic care in that they have a cumulative benefit. Each visit builds on the one before it so following treatment recommendations and home therapy will maximize results in the shortest time.

Theralase cold laser treatments also take anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes, longer if more than one area of tendonitis, bursitis or injury is being treated at your session. Longer treatment times than this are not more effective since the tissues can only absorb a certain amount of photon stimulation at a time for optimal healing.
